Smooth Otter Lutrogale perspicillata I considered myself very fortunate to see a family group of five or six otters in the middle of a very hot day at KSNP. They were swimming along the overgrown canal on the north edge of the park (I first detected them by smell - very fishy!). As they climbed out of the water up a log onto the opposite bank, the 'leader' detected me but then as each one climbed out he or she paused to turn around and have a look at me before disappearing very vocally into the scrub.
